Engineering Management for Beginners
March 09, 2023Some Learning Resources
When faced with a new task or problem, I like to start by reading about it. I find that reading about a topic helps me to get a better understanding of the problem and the context around it. I’m a note-taker, which helps me to organize my thoughts and ideas. So naturally, I started by reading a few books and articles, and seeking out podcasts on the topic of engineering management, and taking lots of notes. Here are the ones I found most useful:
- Engineering Management for the Rest of Us by Sarah Drasner
- Resilient Management by Lara Hogan
- The Manager’s Path: A Guide for Tech Leaders Navigating Growth and Change by Camille Fournier
- Measure What Matters: OKRs: The Simple Idea that Drives 10x Growth by John Doerr
- Your 30-60-90-Day Plan as a New Manager by Franziska Hinkelmann
- A Checklist for First-Time Engineering Managers by Gergely Orosz
- Nailing Your First Months a New Engineering Manager by Quang Hoang
- A Step-by-Step Guide for Your First 90 Days as an Engineering Manager by Matt Nigh
